Beauty and The Beast: Get Your Glow On

Beauty and The Beast: Get Your Glow On

When it comes to horses it is all about the shine and when it comes to our own skincare it is all about the glow. We want our horses super shiny and our skin dewy with an extra helping of glow. Lucky for you, I am about to share two of my favorite products, one that leaves your horse’s coat shiny and one that gives your skin the ultimate glow. Besides being pink, they both provide short-term and long-term results that repair and moisturize the skin.

Let’s start with The Beast, since we spend hours currying and brushing our horse’s coat into a mirror like finish. Although nothing will replace a good diet and a lot of elbow grease when it comes to a shiny hair coat, sometimes (especially in dry conditions) a little added moisture is needed. Cold winter air, wearing blankets and dry, heated barns most definitely dry out hair coats and when that happens I reach for Healthy Haircare’s Hair Moisturizer.

This very concentrated pink oil has a cult-like following evidenced by seeing the bottle on every show barn’s groom cart at horse shows. This oil is a therapeutic lanolin enriched concentrate that assists in replacing vital oils to the hair and skin. Just mix one part concentrate with eight parts water in a spray bottle and mist all over and brush in daily. It is great for keeping dandruff at bay, stopping mane and tail itching, keeping tails detangled and soothing blanket rubs. I also mist it on after rinses and baths. And did I mention it makes them so shiny and smells amazing. Even though it is a potent oil blend, it never leaves an oily residue, just super soft hair. It also does not contain drying silicone, alcohol or parabens. Since you use such a small amount this concentrate really lasts and makes many bottles of spray. Available for $19.95 on SmartPak, Healthy Haircare and Chewy. I also highly recommend buying one or ten of the Healthy Haircare Spray Bottles. This durable 32 oz clear bottle has an easy to read dilution scale for accurate mixing and comes in handy for a variety of uses. Available for $6.50 from Healthy Haircare.

Now that we have the horse sorted and we can focus on our own skin. My go-to product when I want gorgeous, dewy skin is Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops. This first of its kind highlighting skincare/makeup hybrid helps visibly brighten skin and deliver an effortless glow instantly and over time, while helping to reduce hyperpigmentation.

It’s powerhouse ingredients of watermelon, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and moringa seed oil combine to hydrate, plump and soothe fine lines, reduce dark spots, brighten dullness, repair the skin barrier, minimize pores and reveal bouncy, visible plump skin. It leaves your skin soft, smooth and glowy without the use of mica, glitter or pearls. It’s your skin but better and it continues to improve skin over time. My skin as very dull over the summer and this gave it the boost it needed. I apply it every morning after my moisturizer and before I apply my makeup. A tiny dollop goes a long way. Available for $34 at Glow Recipe and Sephora.

Another fun tip to give your skin an extra oomph of dewy, beautiful glow is to use Westman Atelier’s Vital Skincare Dewy Foundation Drops (a next-generation, hydrating skin tint packed with serum-strength actives to visibly improve skin texture, firmness, and radiance drop by drop) mixed with a few drops of Chanel’s Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Highlighting Fluid. The combination of all three products makes your skin look amazing. Shine On!

This not so great selfie shows off a little of the glow I get from the above mentioned products.
