Beauty and The Beast: Face Masks and Cleansing Cloths

Beauty and The Beast: Face Masks and Cleansing Cloths

Summer is in full swing and with it comes lots of heat and humidity which leads to sweaty, sticky, sunscreen and dust covered skin. This can wreak havoc on your complexion, clogging pores, stealing moisture and reducing your glow. Horses also deal with heat and humidity and the sweating can cause issues for their skin. Luckily you can combat this for you and and your horse with some of my favorite products.

Beauty

A great face mask can hydrate and moisturize skin, clean and detox pores, improve skin texture, absorb excess oil and dirt and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Sign me up! My skin needs all that after a day spent in the barn.

I have been using the following face masks (once a week, alternating between the two) and have been really happy with their results. My skin is cleaner, smoother, softer and glowy after using them.

Leahlani Mermaid Mask:

Think of this as an emerald green superfood smoothie for your skin. It is brimming with pristine, nutrient-dense Hawaiian spirulina, raw honey, cleansing sea clay and chlorella. It purifies pores (needed after a day in the barn) and combats breakouts, boots circulation and strengthens skin and evens skin tone while brightening the complexion. This dark green mask is fun to put on and after 10 minutes it leaves my skin better than it was before.

Lilifox Tropical Honey Enzyme Polish and Mask:

I love this super thick, sticky face mask that also does double duty with it’s gritty texture as an exfoliator. This honey-based mask features mineral-rich organic raw cacao,  skin-plumping maracuja oil, rejuvenating rosehip seed oil and gentle white clay that melt together into a glow-giving polish + mask. Antibacterial honey enzymes naturally purify and dissolve dead skin cells while the clay and raw cacao combo stimulate circulation. When gently massaged into skin, finely ground rosehip seeds provide the most gentle manual exfoliation to revitalize dull, congested skin. This is the mask I reach for after a long day riding horses because it just seems to erase all the sweat, sunscreen, dust and dirt off my face leaving it clean and glowing again.

Beast

Excessive sweating as well as constant water exposure from rinsing off legs and bodies during the summer can lead to skin problems in horses. Face crud and fungus can pop up as well as girth itch (from sweaty girths, keep them washed and clean to help with this) as well as scratches and canon crud. These can be annoying to deal with and turn into major problems if not addressed. Most horses don’t love their faces being washed or hosed off so I have recently discovered and fallen in love with Kinetic Technologies Dermacloth. These super easy to use cleansing cloths are packed with vitamin E (supports healing), Dexpanthenol (medication that treats or prevents dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations) and Microban (antimicrobial protection). You can use them to cure and prevent any skin issues, just a few swipes and you are good to go. They come in a resealable container that will easily fit in your grooming tote and tack trunk and require no water to use.
