Hi.

I am a former women’s clothing store owner turned full-time rider and writer. Follow along as I share everything I love about horses, style and beauty. I am also an obsessed Royal Watcher and Denver Broncos Fan.

Trick or Treat

I recently read a survey that said 90% of horse owners feed their horses treats. I am definitely one of those horse owners and my horses love carrots, apples, peppermints, German Horse Muffins and our newest treat obsession which also doubles as a powerhouse super food supplement by Stable Feed. Stable Feed packs chia seeds and a variety of other targeted superfood ingredients into a tasty biscuit that my horses love and I love all the benefits they get from these amazing ingredients.

Chia seeds really are remarkable, and a true superfood. Produced by the Salvia hispanica plant, these tiny seeds are low in sugar and starch, high in water-soluble fibers and quality protein, and a concentrated source of Omega-3 fatty acids. They provide multiple health benefits, and protect virtually every area of your horse’s body by:

  • Lowering circulating insulin and glucose

  • Balancing immune function

  • Protecting joints and ligaments

  • Reducing pain

  • Decreasing nervousness

  • Improving heart and blood vessel integrity

  • Reducing allergic reactions to insect bites

  • Diminishing respiratory inflammation

  • Supporting normal gastrointestinal function

  • Maintaining hair and hoof health

  • Healing damaged skin

  • Hydrating intestinal contents

Maybe I need to start adding some chia seeds to my diet too!

StableFeed also adds other superfood ingredients to their biscuits to target specific concerns you horse may have such as Prickly Pear for glucose support, Papaya for gastric support, Spirulina for immune support, Blueberry for extra antioxidants and Carrot for enhanced Vitamin A (something many horses are deficient in).

I started with a box of the Prickly Pear for Scout since we discovered she is insulin resistant and thought they would be helpful for her issue along with all the other things my vet has recommended we do to help her. Studies have shown Prickly Pear Cactus has hypoglycemic properties that lower blood glucose levels by decreasing the absorption of sugar. So now she can have a treat that is good for her too.

I also bought a box of the Carrot for Shooter and Dreamer to help with their overall health. My next order consisted of the Spirulina to help with Shooter’s fly allergy and the Papaya for Dreamer to help with his ulcer issue he can have from time to time. All my horses love the biscuits and start nickering as soon as they see the StableFeed box. Which by the way StableFeed has the absolute best packaging design and graphics.

StableFeed is really meant to be a supplement and comes in biscuit and loose form but I feed the biscuits as treats. So next time you want to give your horse a treat instead of reaching for a sugary, over-processed full of chemicals horse treat grab them a superfood biscuit from StableFeed instead. Available online at StableFeed.com (you can even order a sample pack to see which one your horse likes best).

How cool is their marketing brochure?! Love the cute graphics that go with each variety.
