Product Review: Purina RepleniMash

Product Review: Purina RepleniMash

When Purina and their team of nutritionists release a new product, I sit up and take notice. I am a big fan of their previous new product, the Outlast Gastric Support Supplement (you can read my review of it here).

So, when I saw a shiny new bag from Purina at my local feed store I just had to give it a try. This time Purina turned their attention to creating a nutritionally balanced mash that is made with wholesome ingredients. The RepleniMash seeks to provide recovery by promoting hydration with a blend of electrolytes and beet pulp (which increases the water holding capacity). They also added their popular, acid-buffering Outlast supplement as well as stabilized ground flaxseed to provide a powerhouse dose of omega-3’s. This powerful and supposedly tasty combination makes it the perfect treat to give your horse after a sweaty ride/lesson or a long trailer ride and will definitely come in handy in the winter when you want to encourage your horse to drink. It is also useful to hide meds and hopefully entice your horse to eat them.

It is super easy to feed and eliminates the need to gather supplies and create your own mash. A serving size is 1-2 lbs per horse. It is available from your local Purina dealer and can be purchased online from Purina. You can purchase a 7 lb bag ($15.49) or a 25 lb bag ($39.49)

I wasn’t sure what I expected when I opened the bag but I was met with a brown, dusty powder with small dried carrot pieces. It smelled good and when I measured it out and added water it turned into an oatmeal consistency, goopy, brown mash that did not look appetizing to me. But my horses after taking a few bites and spitting a bit out, settled in and slurped it down. Dreamer was the most suspicious of it and Tiger immediately loved it and gobbled it up. I won’t use this every day but am glad to have it in my feed room to feed as a special treat, use at horse shows or after long rides and attempt to hide meds. It will be great to use with warm water and serve on bitter, cold days. You can add a few carrots and apple slices to create a tastier healthy treat. I definitely recommend giving it a try!
