May Roundup

May Roundup

Hard to believe another month has come and gone in such a blur! I am kicking off the month of June with a look back at May with a new feature where I spotlight some of my favorite new items I have stumbled across and fallen in love with. These items range from horse products that really work, beauty products that make a difference, home items that have made themselves at home and clothing items that have been added to my regular rotation. Enjoy!!

A few things I have fallen in love with for me, the house and the barn.

A few things I have fallen in love with for me, the house and the barn.

  1. Nantucket Spider Mosquito & Fly Repelling Outdoor Sticks:

I have become addicted to the scent of these outdoor incense sticks that really repel flies and mosquitos. Light one up the next time you want to sit outside and enjoy the summer without flying insects dive bombing you looking for their next meal. They are also DEET and nasty chemical free and instead use a delicious smelling blend of cinnamon, clove, peppermint, rosemary and cedar wood oil. They are easy to light and stay lit for 90 minutes. I even burn them in my barn (on my tack trunk up against our concrete wash rack, way away from hay and shavings) and they really do reduce the number of flies buzzing around.

  2. Amazon Essentials 2 Pack Women’s Crew Neck Tees:

I am always on the hunt for soft, comfy tees and ordered this $16 two pack on a whim and I can honestly say I am hooked. They are everything you want in a tee. They are made from a soft stretchy blend of cotton, modal and spandex that holds it’s shape and wears and washes well. It has a nice fit but is not super clingy, not too tight and not too loose. They also seem a bit longer than most women’s tees so they cover your bum when wearing leggings and stay put without riding up. They come in a variety of colors and prints and can be dressed up or worn casually. I have ordered quite a few two packs and wear them to the barn daily.

  3. Heretic Perfume:

I came across Heretic Perfume when I was looking for a clean perfume (so many perfumes are filled with toxic chemicals and the companies can label bad ingredients as “fragrance” and not actually specify what you are spraying on your body). Heretic Perfumes are made from 100% plant and flower materials and surpass all industry standards of clean and non-toxic. I ordered the discovery kit so I could try a wide variety of their scents and they all smell amazing, very natural and none of the cloying, overly sweet, sickening fake scents you often smell in most perfumes. I am huge fan of Dirty Lemon, Dirty Mango and Dirty Rose and my absolute favorite is Scandalwood that they developed with the famous burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese. It is a sexy, seductive blend of sandalwood, coriander and Bulgarian rose and covers up a day in the barn nicely.

  4. Farriers Finish Hoof Disinfectant and Conditioner:

This has been a life or should I say hoof saver this spring. The crazy alternating dry and wet conditions of spring can leave hooves overly soft or overly dry exposing them to cracking as well as thrush and white line. This is a do it all product that destroys the microbes that cause thrush and white line while also protecting the hoof by creating the perfect moisture balance in excessively wet or dry conditions. I apply it daily to my horses’ feet and it has really cut down on hoof cracks leaving their feet shiny and healthy.

  5. Herbal Essences Argan Oil & Aloe Hair Mask:

This hair mask is a game changer and not for me, but my horses. My husband’s reining horse has a long mane that became dry and brittle over the winter and this was the first product that I have found that makes his mane super soft and shiny even days after I use it. The results have been long lasting and after a few weeks of use his mane is super moisturized and seems thicker and longer. It is a thick, amazing smelling, highly moisturizing jar of goodness that I now reach for once a week when all my horses get their manes and tails washed. Plus the wash rack and my horses smell so good after each use!
